Essential WorkWellness is an ergonomic consulting company working with original equipment manufacturers to bring effective improvement in ergonomics to product development, customer education and marketing communications.
Ms. Murphey is the founder and President of Essential WorkWellness. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree, along with certification as an Ergonomics Evaluation Specialist and Ergonomic Compliance Director, with extensive training in Work Injury Prevention and Workplace Ergonomics. Susan has the unique distinction of being credentialed in both ergonomics and diagnostic medical sonography.
Susan's concern for work related injury among medical sonographers was expressed in her testimony to a panel of OSHA representatives during a hearing on occupational ergonomics in April 2000, and again in written testimony submitted in 2001. Ms. Murphey was content expert and session chair of the 2003 and 2016 Consensus Conferences and was instrumental in the writing of the Industry Standards for the Prevention of Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders in Sonography (pdf).
Susan is past President of the Puget Sound Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, and a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals. Susan Murphey was honored with the 2011 ERGONOMIST OF THE YEAR Award for the Puget Sound [Seattle area] chapter of Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. This award is presented in recognition of an ergonomic professional who has worked to advance the science of human factors and ergonomics, educate others, and/or promote awareness of the field.
